About Us

From one Drummer to another.

Why I Made Speedstixx

My name is Jeff and I live in Greenville, South Carolina. I’ve played drums for years, taught students, and thought I had a pretty solid handle on most styles. Then one day, all of that confidence got checked.

I have a longtime friend in Miami who runs a small recording studio. Nothing fancy — just efficient and affordable. He records jingles for local businesses and demos for bands, and more often than not, he’d call me to play drums. I was cheap, dependable, and honestly, I loved doing it. I never told him I would’ve done it for free.

One day he said,
“I need blast beats on this track.”

I replied,
“What’s a blast beat?”

Yeah. That moment.

After he stopped laughing, he told me to check out Fear Factory and get back to him. He just assumed every drummer could do it.

I listened.
Then I listened again.

And then I had to call him back and say something that hurt more than you can imagine:

“I can’t play this. If that’s a real person and not a drum machine, it’s incredible — and way beyond me.”

That was quite a blow. I always believed I could hang stylistically, but blasting exposed a huge weakness in my hands: speed, endurance, and balance.

So I asked myself the same question a lot of drummers eventually do:

How am I supposed to learn this? Where do I even begin?

I had already done the years of grinding.
Practice pads.
Exercises after exercise.
Patterns.
Hours in front of the TV, pounding away, hoping something would finally click.

And I knew exactly how that story ended.

After five minutes, I’d either quit…
or start playing things I already knew how to play.

No progress.
Just repetition and frustration.

I wasn’t doing that again.

The Moment Everything Changed

Then I remembered an old exercise — the one where you flip the stick around and slap it into the underside of your forearm with your fingers.

You know the one.

I tried it.

And because of my intensity (and bruised ego), I overdid it. I was slamming the stick into my arm, thinking, “This has to work.”

After about 30 seconds, the pain was intense.
I still have the scars to prove it.

That’s when it hit me:

How can I challenge the same muscles…
get the same benefits…
without the pain, noise, boredom, or impact?

That question changed everything.

Necessity — the mother of invention — showed up right on time.

What I Built for Myself First

I wanted something that:

  • worked the exact muscles used to move a drumstick
  • created resistance without impact
  • felt natural in the hands
  • could be used anywhere
  • and didn’t require a drum kit

That’s when Speedstixx was born.

At first, it wasn’t a product.
It was just a solution — for me.

I started using them for:

  • endurance
  • speed
  • balance
  • independence

And something unexpected happened.

I was getting better away from the kit.

I was learning patterns faster.
My hands stayed loose.
My weak hand started catching up.
And I could practice while walking, riding in a car, watching TV, standing in line — anywhere.

No noise.
No impact.
No complaints from neighbors.

The convenience was incredible

Why I Decided to Share Them

After a while, I realized this wasn’t just helping me.

Students started improving faster.
Drummers noticed their hands felt ready before sitting down.
Warm-ups got shorter.
Pain and fatigue showed up less.

That’s when I knew Speedstixx couldn’t stay a secret.

Not because they’re magic —
but because they solve a problem drummers everywhere deal with:

We want to get better, even when a drum kit isn’t available.

Speedstixx lets you do exactly that.

This Is What They’re Really About

Speedstixx isn’t about gimmicks.
It’s not about learning new exercises.
It’s not about playing louder or longer.

It’s about:

  • using resistance to challenge the right muscles
  • practicing quietly, anywhere
  • shortening the learning curve
  • warming up before auditions, jams, or gigs
  • and reducing wear and tear on your hands, arms, and shoulders

I built them because I needed them.

Now I share them because I know other drummers do too.

Portrait of a Speedstixx drummer

This is the story of a drummer named Bummer
He practiced flams, paradiddles and drags all summer
But his single stroke rolls were so lame, the bass player kept complaining
Other band mates noticed it too shouting, “it’s our reputation you’re staining”

That was just the beginning of his excuses and troubles
Dare I mention his unbalanced and very weak doubles
He tried to cover it up with loose strainers, gimmicks, and tricks
Until everyone told him “Just get a pair of Speedstixx”

But he kept saying no, c’mon “I’ll get better”
Quickly he realized the band wrote him a Pete Best letter
Dear Bummer, blah, blah, blah, you know the rest
Things like, we’re a really good band and we need the best

Your endurance is an issue of that we’re sure
Consistent tempo isn’t your strong suit either…. Speedstixx is the cure
You’re having trouble with this and slow down on that
We hear Wal-Mart is hiring, and that’s a fact

Eventually he gave in and ordered, but by then it was too late
The band had his replacement and a recording date
Broken hearted, angry and totally confused
Drumming is my life, “I thought you were my friends” he mused

Not giving up, Speedstixx arrived quickly, and he hit the ground running
Used them daily and the licks came fast and stunning
He used Speedstixx anywhere and everywhere, beating silently on nothing but air
Results were fantastic without beating a drum, nothing can compare

No more boring exercise after exercise his creativity ran wild
He could feel his lightning-fast progress and so he smiled
So many problems his drumming had in the past
Blast beat speed is perfect now and his endurance will last

Sticking patterns worked out well in advance, easily while watching T.V.
Muscle memory and Independence shouldn’t be this easy he thought, but it is as anyone can see
Now he feels the groove down deep in his soul
Making quick work of George L. Stone’s stick control

8 to 10 minutes a day targeting the exact drumming muscles needed
Laser focused with no misleading high bouncing cheap rubber practice pads is how he succeeded
Now fully warmed up before every jam, audition, or gig, the spotlight he commands
All anyone can talk about is the jaw dropping speed of his hands

No longer limited to the same tired licks
The ones he played over and over as everyone could predict
He threw in some cymbal crashes, linear beats and eye-catching stick twirls
Now speedstixx gets him the attention of so many beautiful girls

He no longer limits his practicing, to be just a pocket drummer
When fantastic chops and perfect fills are musical too, just ask Bummer
One last thought before the saga ends and I let you go
It’s extremely important and I think you should know

Don’t practice for years wondering why your sticks don’t move faster
When right in front of you is the super drumming tool that makes you a stick master
Because when Speedstixx drummers sit down to play, soon there will be a crowd
Why haven’t you got your Speedstixx yet drummers for cryin’ out loud!!!
